Hulu has released the first full-length trailer for Chad Powers, a new comedy series starring Glen Powell as a fallen football star attempting an unlikely comeback under disguise.

Powell plays Russ Holliday, once a promising college quarterback whose career imploded after a costly, ego-driven mistake in a championship game. Eight years later, desperate for redemption, he reenters the sport in heavy prosthetics and adopts the alias “Chad Powers.”

“South Georgia is having open tryouts? I am going to do a Mrs. Doubtfire, but with football,” Powell’s character says in the trailer.

The series traces its roots to a 2022 ESPN sketch in which Eli Manning disguised himself with makeup to attend a Penn State tryout, fooling fellow players and staff. That prank inspired a full series, with Manning and his brother Peyton Manning now serving as executive producers through Omaha Productions.

Powell, who co-created and co-wrote the show, said the disguise element gave the series its core premise. “What made Eli’s thing so magical is the viewer knew Eli Manning was under [the disguise]. So, let’s use the lie at the center of this thing, which creates inherent fun conflict over the course of the series,” Powell told The Hollywood Reporter.

Chad Powers premieres September 30 on Hulu and Disney+ with two episodes, followed by weekly releases each Tuesday.
